Principal Power Engineer (Specialism: Balance of Plant, Power Process)
Category - Power Generation
Description
It is envisaged the candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with a degree in mechanical engineering and a background in power station mechanical plant, including biomass boilers, steam turbines, condenser and feedwater systems and balance of plant. Detail engineering experience in a contracting organisation, an OEM or within a consultancy is equally desirable. The candidate will preferably have acquired experience of the design and construction of medium-size power plant of different configurations and fuel types.
Duties will include acting as discipline lead for a small project team responsible for
- The development of conceptual system designs including preparing system and equipment descriptions,
- Preparation of technical specif! ications and datasheets for sub-supplier mechanical systems, e! quipment and/or services at enquiry and contract stages of projects.
- Technical evaluation and assessment of proposals from sub-suppliers and preparation of tender
- Design, analysis and specification of balance of plant systems including pumping and piping systems.
- Collaboration with CAD designers for site and equipment layouts and 3D modelling
- The technical management of equipment suppliers and co-ordination of technical information including
- Providing technical support and resolving technical issues during erection and commissioning stages of
The candidate will be fully conversant in the usage of modern standards and current power station design practice.
The specific role will be Mechanical Lead within an engineering team reporti! ng to the project or engineering manager for renewable power plant construction projects. Leadership of small engineering teams will be required, as well as interaction with other discipline leads and project managers.
The successful candidate must be articulate, with good report writing skills and able to work under their own initiative.
