Job Purpose / Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join what is one of the largest microbiology departments in United Kingdom Healthcare. We are looking for enthusiastic newly qualified graduates holding a CPSM approved Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences or someone with equivalent experience and qualifications.
You will be employed by the Health Protection Agency, working on rotation through all sections of Virology in purpose-built accommodation within the Directorate of Laboratory Medicine at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The combined microbiology departments (including bacteriology on two sites) employ over 200 staff and has a workload in excess of 700,000 specimens covering major clinical specialties including respiratory medicine, transplantation, (solid organ and haematological), burns, renal medicine, urology & paediatrics.
The Virology department embraces all aspects of a modern automated Clinical Virology service. Th! ere is an increasing emphasis on molecular diagnosis with an active R&D program. An extensive quality system is in operation.
The services are accredited by CPA. We hold HPC accreditation for training and actively encourage CPD activities and post-graduate qualifications.
After suitable training and successful Registration with the HPC, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in out of hours working including on-call and Saturday morning working.
