The Role
The role of the Race Mechanic is to build, maintain and repair Elite level competition cycles across the full range of Olympic/Paralympic cycle sports as part of the GBCT Technical and Resource Support Team. This role demands the highest standards of bicycle maintenance and support to all athletes involved in Team GB activities and at times an innovative approach to problem solving and the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure will be required. As an organisation that always seeks excellence any candidate should enjoy taking an active part in the development of the Technical and Resource Department and be flexible enough to meet new challenges as and when they arise.
The Rac! e Mechanicâs normal place of work will be the workshop in th! e Manchester Velodrome, however, the post will involve significant periods of time working abroad and also evening/weekend working. One of the key
philosophies of Team GB is to be athlete-centred and coach-led with the highest possible standard of support
delivered at all times, and the purpose of the role is to strive for excellence and leave no stone unturned in the
pursuit of success.
Team GB is only involved in cycling disciplines included in the Olympic and Paralympics programme: Road
(including Individual Time Trial), Track, Mountain Bike Cross Country, BMX and Para-cycling specialities, as such an expert level of mechanical competence in at least one of these areas is a pre-requisite - for the vacancy at hand we are seeking someone to take primary responsibility for MTB, but this expertise should also be coupled with a willingness and sufficient expertise to diversify into other disciplines should the interests of the team dictate.

Applicants will need to possess:
- Mechanical, technical or engineering qualified or compensating work experience.
- Substantial knowledge of a wide range of bike equipment with the ability to diagnose faults and maintain,
- Effective communication skills both written and oral
- The ability to work well under pressure and within a pressurised environment
- Meticulous attention to detail
- A commitment to the development of the sport and the Olympic and Paracycling ideals.
- The ability to travel extensively between sites in the UK and abroad. !
- Demonstrable IT/Stock Control Software experience.
