We are looking for a civil engineer, with particular skills in water engineering, to join our successful twenty-strong civil engineering team in Manchester. You will have to opportunity to work on a range of projects for commercial and public sector clients, include overseas projects. You are likely to have particular experience in drainage design and the assessment of flood risk, but you will be called upon to carry out a range of civil engineering design tasks. Current projects include the design of external work for major developments in Manchester, and design of infrastructure across the north west of England. Role
As well as working with the civil engineering team you will be also working with a wide range of other specialists, particularly the Railways, Geotechnical, Buildings and Consulting teams who are based with us in our Manchester office. You will also be working with Arup people across the UK and overseas.
- Carrying out c! ivil engineering design under minimal supervision.
- Ch! ecking the quality and accuracy of own and othersâ work
- Water engineering modelling, ideally familiar with MicroDrainage and WaterCAD.
- Working with other Arup colleagues, and our collaborators and clients
- Writing non-standard letters, reports and other documentation
- Responsible for defined parts of large design projects, or for all of a smaller design project.
You will have the opportunity to take more responsibility and leadership of the projects on which you work, or to increase your technical specialist skills.
You will be based in Arupâs Manchester office. You will sit in the civil engineering team there, but may be asked to work for periods in other Arup offices in the sub-region including Sheffield, Leeds and Liverpool.
You will be aske! d to visit client and collaborators offices for meetings, and where appropriate to visit sites. This may include opportunities to work overseas. Requirements
- A demonstrable track record of successful delivery within a civil engineering role/environment, including experience influencing professional peers and guiding technical personnel in the definition, implementation and delivery of engineering work packages.
- Significant demonstrable expertise in one or more relevant specific specialist areas within civil engineering.
- Experience of working within a regulated and quality assured system in a capacity where both other staff and key decisions are reliant upon your professional engineering judgment and where design was a major part of the role.
- Proven experience of working in roles where knowledge of civil was a key attribute.
- Knowledge of relevant design tools, techniques and related methods
- Highly competent in the spe! cification of development work as well as the interpretation and applic! ation of results.
